AstraZeneca is accelerating a project on the research, production, and technology transfer of pharmaceutical products in Vietnam worth $90 million and is selecting a partner to transfer its Covid-19 vaccine technology to Vietnam, in order to accompany and support the country in becoming a leading pharmaceutical center of the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that a shipment including 2,021,360 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine provided to Vietnam by the Italian Government via the COVAX mechanism arrived in Hanoi on October 15. Italy has so far donated a total of more than 2.8 million doses of vaccine to support Vietnam’s vaccination campaign.
Vietnam received nearly 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine on October 15, of which 1.1 million from South Korea and 887,700 doses came from Poland. Poland previously donated 501,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam, while South Korea is discussing the possibility of providing another 100,000 doses.
The Polish Government has delivered over 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the Ministry of Health, which will soon be distributed to localities.
In a phone call with the AstraZeneca Group’s General Director on August 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam wishes to strengthen strategic, comprehensive, and long-term cooperation with the company not only in vaccines but also in pharmaceuticals and healthcare in general. He also proposed that AstraZeneca negotiate with other countries to cede their unused vaccines to Vietnam.
Nearly 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have recently arrived in Vietnam. This is the seventh delivery under a contract signed between the Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) and AstraZeneca for 30 million doses. AstraZeneca is the most used vaccine in the country and has been available since March.
