The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) has licensed four mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) in Vietnam, with the number of subscribers accounting for about 1.2 per cent of the telecommunications market. The MVNO market in the country is forecast to account for 10-15 per cent of the telecommunications market, or 15-20 million subscribers.
As of April, the number of mobile phone subscribers simply using calling and texting was still significant, at up to 45.2 million. The figure is considered an issue given Vietnam’s goal of becoming a digital society. The Ministry of Information and Communications has set a target of, by the end of this year, cutting the number of phone users only calling and texting to 6 million out of the current 123.8 million subscribers.
