From April 1, mobile service providers will block incoming calls for subscribers whose personal information fails to match the national population database.
Standardization of information is being carried out under a decree on mobile telecommunications.
All mobile subscriptions must provide accurate personal information under the decree, including their name, ID number, and profile picture. The regulation aims to help protect the interests of customers using the service and limit the number of junk SIMs in the market.
There are still nearly 2 million mobile service subscribers who need to have their personal information synchronized with the national population database, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications’ Department of Telecommunications.
Those that do not coordinate with mobile service providers to update their personal information will have their two-way communications blocked from April 15 and they will have their contracts terminated from May 15 if they still fail to update their personal information.
Phone numbers with incorrect information will receive a notification from the mobile carriers.
Mobile phone providers will send messages to customers at least once a day for five days, asking them to update their information as requested.
Figures show there are about 126 million mobile phone subscriptions in Vietnam.
