Import and export activities in central Thanh Hoa province maintained positive growth momentum in the first 10 months of 2026, with customs declarations and the value of traded goods both increasing by an average of 20–30 per cent year-on-year.
The growth generated more than VND23.5 trillion ($893 million) in the province's state budget revenue, highlighting the increasingly significant contribution of international trade to local public finances and the potential for further expansion of the province’s import-export sector.
With the deep-water Nghi Son seaport and a growing industrial base, Thanh Hoa is well positioned to expand trade activities and become a regional goods distribution hub in the country's North Central region. However, turning these advantages into tangible growth will require coordinated efforts to secure cargo volumes, improve service quality and strengthen logistics connectivity.
Mr. Mai Xuan Liem, Standing Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa People’s Committee, said the province would focus on maintaining shipping routes, encouraging priority groups of businesses to use the port and preparing cargo sources for a dedicated container terminal between now and the first quarter of 2027. These immediate priorities are intended to sustain maritime transport, secure regular cargo flows and improve port utilisation.
In the longer term, the province plans to develop an integrated logistics foundation, including inland container depots, centralised cargo inspection facilities, transport connections, a network of logistics companies and a skilled specialised workforce.
Such infrastructure will help shorten cargo transit times, reduce transport costs and improve connectivity between seaports, industrial parks, economic zones and production areas across the region.
