Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction has approved a master plan for Thanh Son Airport in southern Khanh Hoa province for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, outlining its development as a dual-use civilian and military airport with an annual capacity of 3 million passengers by mid-century.
Under the approved plan, Thanh Son Airport will be located in Do Vinh Ward, serving as a domestic airport jointly operated for civil aviation and defense purposes.
During the 2021–2030 phase, the airport is expected to meet ICAO 4C standards, with a designed capacity of approximately 1.5 million passengers per year. It will accommodate Code C aircraft, including the Airbus A319, A320, A321, Boeing 737, and equivalent models.
Looking ahead to 2050, Thanh Son Airport is projected to maintain ICAO 4C classification while expanding its annual handling capacity to 3 million passengers. The long-term development plan includes runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, flight operation support facilities, technical infrastructure, aviation and non-aviation services, as well as security and emergency rescue systems.
According to the Ministry of Construction, the project will require approximately 2,115 hectares of land during the 2021–2030 period.
