The Mekong Delta’s Tien Giang province is working on a traffic construction and upgrade project along the Tien River with total investment of over VND3.26 trillion ($134 million), the local Department of Transport has said.

Provincial Road No. 864 is expected to be a key traffic route of strategic significance to the locality’s socio-economic development and security and defense.

The first phase, costing VND2 trillion ($83.7 million), is to be completed in the 2023-2025 period.

Of the total length of 111.42 km, 36.4 km will be built and another 26.3 km upgraded and expanded, with the remaining 48.5 km being the existing route. Thirteen bridges will also be built.

The Department of Transport said Provincial Road No. 864 will play a crucial role in regional links as it will greatly facilitate trade, travel, and transport activities within the province and between provinces along the Tien River and in the Mekong Delta.
