Tra fish exports bounce back

Vietnam’s tra fish exports have bounced back with a revenue of $725 million in the first five months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 2%, figures from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The export value in both April and May recorded a significant growth, estimated at $168 million and $146 million, up 13% and 8% year-on-year, respectively.

The US remained the largest importer of Vietnamese tra fish, following by China and Europe and several South American markets.

The export turnover of frozen fillets to the US in the five-month period reached over $120 million, soaring 19% compared to the same period last year and accounting for 98% of total tra fish shipments to this market.

Meanwhile, tra fish exports to the European market in the first five months of the year dropped 7% year-on-year, to some $70 million.

Germany surpassed the Netherlands to become the biggest importer within the bloc, according to the VASEP. Other markets with positive growth during the period include Lithuania (215%), Spain (69%), Belgium (62%), and Greece (46%).
