Transport minister asks localities to speed up projects

Anh Tú -

Many transport projects have been delayed, leading to capital increases.

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang has asked localities to speed up construction of transport projects after inspections revealed many delayed projects.

At an online conference held recently with localities on the progress and quality of transport projects, Minister Thang said delays have caused an increase in investment capital in a number of projects in provinces such as Yen Bai and Dak Lak.

In the central highlands’ Dak Lak province, for example, construction at ten out of 18 transport projects has fallen behind schedule.

The ministry will allocate sufficient capital, so localities need to accelerate construction progress, he said.

He stressed that the disbursement task of the ministry in 2023 is huge, with total public investment capital of over VND94 trillion ($4.02 billion). The ministry has already assigned detailed capital plans for projects, as regulated.

The minister asked transport departments in localities to direct contractors to mobilize enough equipment, human resources, and materials to speed up construction and to work closely with relevant agencies to address obstacles relating to site clearance to complete projects on schedule.

Investors should review the difficulties arising and propose that authorized agencies adopt solutions to boost the disbursement of public investment capital, he said.
