Turkish-led consortium meets technical requirements for construction of Long Thanh airport terminal

The Vietur consortium, led by Turkish company IC ISTAS, is the only one among three consortiums registering to build the terminal at Long Thanh International Airport to be certified as meeting all technical requirements, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the project investor.

Construction of the terminal, or Package No. 5.10, is the largest in the first phase of the airport project in southern Dong Nai province. It includes design, construction, and equipment installation at the terminal, with capital estimated at more than VND35.2 trillion ($1.49 billion).

IC ISTAS is among the top three largest Turkish contractors and has experience in building international airports, such as St. Petersburg Pulkovo, Antalya Airport (through build-operate-transfer and public-private partnerships), and the first phase of King Khaled Airport in Saudi Arabia.

Vietur also includes local construction companies such as Ricons, Newtecons, SOL E&C, and Vinaconex.

Located some 40 km from Ho Chi Minh City, the Long Thanh International Airport project has total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($14.6 billion).

The consortium will have to join the second bidding round for financial details.

Construction is divided into three phases. In the first, a runway and a passenger terminal along with supporting facilities will be built to serve 25 million passengers and handle 1.2 million tons of cargo a year.
