Two sections of the Eastern North-South Expressway during the 2017-2020 period, which are National Highway No. 45 - Nghi Son, and Nghi Son - Dien Chau, were officially open to traffic on October 18.
They pass through north-central Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces.
The National Highway No. 45 - Nghi Son section is 43.28 km long and has total investment capital of over VND5.5 trillion ($230.5 million).
The Nghi Son - Dien Chau section is 50 km long and has total investment capital of nearly VND7.3 trillion ($304 million).
The opening of the two projects is expected to help promote transport activities between the northern and north-central regions and boost the development of urban areas and industrial, services, and tourism centers in Nghe An and Thanh Hoa.
The projects also help cut the travel time from Hanoi to Nghe An from five hours to 3.5 hours and ease congestion along National Highway No. 1.
Construction of the Eastern North-South Expressway during the 2017-2020 period (phase 1) is divided into eleven component projects with a total length of 654 km. Eight component projects have completed and put into operation.
