Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha recently signed document number 175/TTg-CN, approving an investment project to upgrade Bien Hoa Airport under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The People's Committee of Dong Nai province has been designated as the lead authority for implementing the project. This decision aligns with requests from the provincial government, the Ministry of Transport, and recommendations from the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Dong Nai province has already begun studies to expand Bien Hoa Airport into a dual-use facility with an estimated capacity of 5 million passengers per year. The existing Bien Hoa Airfield covers approximately 967 hectares, with the potential to allocate about 50 hectares for civil aviation use.
Upon completion, Dong Nai will become the first locality in Vietnam to operate two commercial airports – the Long Thanh International Airport and the dual-use Bien Hoa Airport.
The Deputy Prime Minister has instructed the Ministries of Defense, Planning and Investment, Finance, Natural Resources and Environment, and other relevant agencies to coordinate with and support the People's Committee of Dong Nai province throughout the project's implementation.
The People's Committee of Dong Nai province will direct agencies to work closely with the relevant ministries and agencies during the implementation process.
Previously, the Prime Minister assigned several other localities to lead new airport investments under the PPP model, including Van Don International Airport, Quang Tri Airport, and Sa Pa Airport.
These projects play a significant role in enhancing regional connectivity and promoting international accessibility. Notably, Van Don Airport has been operational since 2018, contributing positively to the socioeconomic development of both the region and the nation.
