Vietnam had exported over 4.48 million tons of rice this year as of July 15, earning nearly $2.4 billion, figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs show.
The figures represent year-on-year increases of 17 per cent in quantity and 28 per cent in value.
The average export price was over $530 per ton; higher than the $490 in the same period last year.
The Philippines, China, and Indonesia were the three largest destinations, with 1.7 million tons, 677,387 tons, and 492,801 tons, respectively.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has recently directed local enterprises to ensure a balance is struck between rice exports and domestic consumption, to help stabilize the rice price and ensure food security after India banned the export of non-basmati white rice to curb its inflation rate.
