Vietnam and Japan should cooperate more closely in energy production, as the two countries hold major potential in biomass power development, according to Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue.
Speaking at a reception for Special Advisor to the Cabinet of Japan and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Maeda Tadashi, in Hanoi on July 27, Chairman Hue also proposed the two countries work together in the supply chain of projects related to gas energy and coordinate closely in developing wind power and solar power suitable to the climate change situation in Vietnam and Asia.
He stressed that energy transition is an inexorable and objective process to ensure sustainable development and a global issue that no country can ignore.
Vietnam greatly values the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative from Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, he continued, adding that Vietnam is working hard to implement specific cooperative activities with Japan in the field.
Agreeing with Mr. Tadashi on the need to set up a joint working group for implementing the AZEC, Chairman Hue affirmed that the NA is willing to send officials from its committees to join the group.
Mr. Tadashi said Japan is drastically implementing the AZEC while making a large investment in a fund for new energy resource research. Vietnamese companies can join their Japanese peers to conduct research on new energy resource development using the fund, he said.
He added that Japan, the US, and Australia will work together to support Vietnam in mitigating the impact of climate change, and Japan has set up a framework to assist Vietnam in this regard.
