Vietnam and Kazakhstan should coordinate closely and fulfill their target of $1.5 billion in annual two-way trade, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during talks with State President Vo Van Thuong in Hanoi on August 21.

The Kazakh President said he supported cooperation between the two countries in logistics, transportation, and agriculture.

He proposed establishing a Vietnam-Kazakhstan Business Council to boost cooperation between businesses from the two countries.

The Presidents discussed measures to boost cooperation between the two countries, and expressed a need to promote investment cooperation by increasing the exchange of information on investment environments and opportunities as well as creating favorable conditions for businesses from both countries to access the other’s market.

They suggested the establishment of joint ventures in fields of mutual strength and demand, such as garments and textiles, Halal food processing, seafood, and canned food for the Central Asian market.

The two also agreed to expand the partnership to other areas of potential, such as transportation, education and training, culture, sports, tourism, banking and finance, and high technology.

They welcomed the opening of direct flights between Vietnam and Kazakhstan in October 2022.

After the talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing of a joint action plan to promote economic-trade cooperation in the 2023-2025 period.
