Vietnam's National Assembly convened an extraordinary session on March 21st, chaired by Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

The National Assembly Standing Committee presented a proposal to relieve Vo Van Thuong of his positions as President of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term and as a member of the 15th National Assembly.

Following deliberation, members of the National Assembly voted to pass the proposal, effectively removing Vo Van Thuong from his positions.

The National Assembly Standing Committee issued a statement appointing Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan as Acting President of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.

This appointment aligns with the Constitution, the Law on Organization of the National Assembly, Resolution of the 6th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly, and the Politburo's decision.

Vo Thi Anh Xuan will hold the position of Acting President until the National Assembly elects a new President. The extraordinary session concluded on the morning of March 21st.

Prior to the session, Vo Van Thuong submitted his resignation, relinquishing his positions as a member of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Party Central Committee for the 13th tenure.

He also stepped down as President of Vietnam and Chairman of the Council of National Defense and Security for the 2021-2026 term.

Reports from the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission and relevant agencies revealed that Vo Van Thuong violated regulations governing Party members and guidelines on the expected conduct of high-ranking officials.

His actions sparked negative public sentiment, tarnishing the reputation of the Party and State, as well as his own personal standing.
