More than 265 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to date in Vietnam, putting it among countries with the highest vaccination coverage worldwide.

Nearly 90 per cent of the population aged 18 or older have received a fourth dose, more than 90 per cent of children aged from five to 12 have received a first dose, and nearly 70 per cent of children have received a second dose.

The results were revealed at a meeting in Hanoi on December 16 to review a nine-month campaign launched by the Ministry of Health (MoH), UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO) on Covid-19 prevention and control efforts.

The “Safe Journeys” campaign, launched in March 2022, aimed to strengthen public awareness about the importance of complying with preventive practices, including vaccinations. It reached more than 60 million people around the country.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong said the government has mobilized resources to speed up vaccinations; a decisive measure in realizing the country’s policy of “safe adaptation, flexible and effective control of the Covid-19 pandemic”.

During the campaign, short videos and infographics were posted on the Facebook pages of the MoH, UNICEF in Vietnam, WHO in Vietnam, and those with millions of followers.

Talks on Covid-19 vaccinations for children and instructions on taking care of children suffering from the virus were broadcast on popular TV channels.

The campaign also promoted communications activities on Tik Tok, with messages translated into ethnic minority languages as well as sign language.
