Party General Secretary and State President To Lam reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to strengthening its relationship with the World Bank (WB) during a meeting with its President Ajay Banga in New York on September 25.

Mr. Banga expressed his admiration for Vietnam's significant progress over the past two decades, particularly its integration into the global supply chain. He emphasized Vietnam's importance as a key partner of the WB.

He proposed enhancing cooperation between the two sides  in several areas, including infrastructure development, sustainable energy transition, and promoting Vietnam's successful low-emission rice farming practices.

Party leader and President Lam acknowledged the WB's crucial role in poverty reduction and addressing global challenges. He highlighted the bank's strategic vision of creating a poverty-free world on a livable planet as a foundation for future collaboration.

The Vietnamese top leader emphasized the importance of accelerating the development of the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) between Vietnam and the WB to guide bilateral cooperation. He also asked the WB to continue supporting Vietnam with resources for key projects that align with the country's economic restructuring, energy transition, and climate change response.

The WB President agreed with Mr. Lam's proposals and affirmed the WB's priority of allocating significant resources to Vietnam, particularly for projects in key areas identified by the Vietnamese leader.
