Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry, and fishery sectors maintained positive growth momentum through the first nine months of 2026, recording a trade surplus of $16.9 billion, a 7.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the sector’s GDP growth rate for Q3 2026 was estimated at 4.1 to 4.2 percent. Public investment disbursement reached over 60 percent, while agricultural, forestry, and fishery production sustained solid expansion.

At the country level, China retained its position as Vietnam’s top export destination with a 24.4 percent market share, followed by the United States at 19.8 percent and Japan at 7.4 percent. Year-on-year export growth to China rose 18.9 percent, while shipments to the US and Japan grew by 1.2 percent and 4.9 percent, respectively.

Among key commodity groups, fruits and vegetables remained a major bright spot. In September 2026 alone, fruit and vegetable exports reached an estimated $1.19 billion, lifting the total nine-month export value to nearly $7.35 billion, a 19.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.

China continued as the largest consumer of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, accounting for 63 percent of total export turnover. The US and South Korea were the second and third largest markets, representing 7 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively.
