Vietnam’s power supply remained stable in the first nine months of 2026, with electricity generation and imports rising 9.3% year on year, according to Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
Total electricity generated and imported across the national system reached 29.97 billion kWh in September, up 9.2% from the same month last year, bringing the total output in the first nine months to 265.79 billion kWh.
Coal-fired power remained the largest source, generating 132.63 billion kWh, or 49.9% of the total. Hydropower contributed 68.48 billion kWh, accounting for 25.8%, while gas-fired power generated 20.48 billion kWh, or 7.7%.
Renewable energy supplied 33.6 billion kWh, equivalent to 12.6% of the total output. Solar power accounted for 21.5 billion kWh and wind power 10.85 billion kWh. Electricity imports contributed a further 10.3 billion kWh, or 3.9%.
EVN and its affiliated units also accelerated investment in the national power grid. During the first nine months, work began on 136 grid projects, including two 500kV, 18 220kV and 116 110kV projects. A total of 131 projects were put into operation, comprising five 500kV, 16 220kV and 110 110kV projects.
Electricity generation and imports are expected to reach 88.97 billion kWh in the fourth quarter, up 11.3% year on year, as demand continues to rise alongside economic activity.
