Number of green building certifications in Vietnam has experienced a significant breakthrough in the past year, with 163 building projects certified, doubling the 2023 figure, and tripling that of 2022.

Beyond green apartments, the past two years have witnessed notable and substantial growth in green industrial buildings.

According to the "Vietnam Green Building Market Overview 2024" report, recently released by the Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiences (EDGE) - green building certification system, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank, Vietnam now boasts 559 certified green buildings.

This figure far surpasses the previously set targets outlined in Decision No 280/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, which aimed for 80 green buildings by 2025 and 150 by 2030.

Statistics reveal a continuous increase in the number of green-certified buildings in Vietnam over the past 14 years. While only one building was certified each year in 2010 and 2011, the number increased to 20 by 2012, 26 in 2017, 58 in 2020, and then 76 in 2023.

The report also highlights the country's 10 localities with the largest floor area achieving green certification, namely Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and the provinces of Binh Duong, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Dong Nai, Ha Nam, Long An, and Binh Dinh.
