Preliminary data from the General Statistics Office has shown that Vietnam's transport sector is on track to achieve its targets for this year.
In the first nine months of 2024, passenger transport volume rose by 9.0% and turnover by 18.0% compared to the same period last year, while freight transport volume increased by 12.6% and turnover by 7.3%.
Specifically, during the period, the number of transported passengers is estimated to have reached 3,660.2 million, including 13.4 million of international passengers, a 7.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Passenger turnover reached 204.6 billion persons-km, a 12.2% increase year-on-year.
The transported intenational passengers represented a 19.2% increase year-on-year.
The Ministry of Transport set ambitious goals for 2024, aiming for a 7% increase in freight transport volume (approximately 2,500 million tons) and an 8% increase in passenger transport volume (around 5,000 million passengers) compared to 2023.
