Digital transformation in Vietnamese media agencies is being facilitated by support from Party and State leaders, political determination, and a policy of promoting the process as a strategy.
Under the draft strategy on digital transformation of the media to 2025 and orientation to 2030, which the government has assigned to the Ministry of Information and Communications to build and implement, Vietnam has set a target that, by 2025, 70 per cent of media agencies will digitalize their press content on available platforms and 80 per cent will transform and operate as a converged multi-media editorial office, among other things.
VnEconomy / VET has quickly built a model for a converged editorial office and to implement digital transformation.
Dr. Chu Van Lam, Editor-in-Chief of VnEconomy / VET, said that after being transformed from a newspaper to a magazine under the Project of Planning and Developing Journalism to 2025, VnEconomy / VET has been strongly implementing digital transformation, constantly improving operational methods and content to meet requirements, and met a significant part of readers’ demand for economic information, especially issues relating to Party and State socio-economic development guidelines and policies, with much in-depth analysis.
With a comprehensive digital transformation policy and strategy, VnEconomy / VET has established a Digital Marketing Department to promote the building and development of content on the digital platform. High-quality, in-depth media products from VnEconomy / VET are displayed on multiple platforms, such as print magazine, electronic magazine, a Fanpage, YouTube, TikTok, and LinkedIn, reflecting the situation in Vietnam’s business community, economy, and society, to meet the diverse needs of readers.
To serve international readers, VnEconomy has applied technology for online publishing in English with a summary of prominent content. Readers are able to read articles in 108 languages through translation tools.
Within the framework of the “Vietnamese Excellent Brand Award 2022” program on October 12, a digital platform developed by VnEconomy / VET in cooperation with the National Newspapers Distribution Company to publish a PDF copy was also officially launched.
Mr. Dao Quang Binh, CEO and General Secretary of VnEconomy / VET, said that readers can access the PDF copy two days earlier than the print copy. The cost to read the PDF copy will also be cheaper than the printed magazine. “We consider this an effective digital transformation tool for the development of Vietnamese journalism,” Mr. Binh added.
It is necessary and also practical to implement digital transformation in media agencies to meet the increasingly diverse needs of readers and trends in journalism and media around the world.
