Trade union members and workers who lost their jobs or had their working hours cut as a result of their employer grappling with falling order numbers will receive financial support of VND1-3 million ($42-126) each, according to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL).
Under a resolution issued by the Confederation on January 16, trade union members will be given support of VND1 million ($42) if they lost their jobs or did not work for at least 14 straight days between October 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023.
Members who lost their jobs or did not work for at least 30 straight days will receive support of VND2 million ($84).
Those who had their labor contracts terminated between October 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, but failed to receive unemployment insurance benefits will receive support of VND3 million ($126).
Workers who are not trade union members will receive support equal to 70 per cent of the support for members.
Since last September, many enterprises in Vietnam have faced difficulties due to cancelled or reduced orders, which affected worker incomes and lives, according to the VGCL.
