In 2024, 5.7 million accounts on the Steam game store were compromised by infostealer malware. Of these, nearly 88,000 Vietnamese accounts had their login information leaked.

According to the latest research from the Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence (DFI) team, a total of 11 million gaming accounts had their login information leaked in 2024.

This data shows that the Steam platform alone accounted for 5.7 million accounts compromised by infostealer malware. This dangerous malware was also responsible for the exposure of login details for 6.2 million accounts across other major gaming applications such as Epic Games Store, Battle.net, Ubisoft Connect, GOG, and EA.

Based on data from malware log files, the Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence team analyzed leaked Steam login credentials related to the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

The results show that Thailand topped the list with nearly 163,000 accounts compromised, followed by the Philippines with 93,000 username-password pairs.

Vietnam also ranked in the top 3 with nearly 88,000 accounts. Conversely, countries with the lowest figures were China, Sri Lanka, and Singapore, with approximately 19,000, 11,000, and 4,000 login credentials, respectively.

It comes as no surprise that Asia-Pacific has become a prime target for cybercriminals. The region is currently considered the global gaming hub, home to more than half of the world's gamers.

Strong growth in key markets like China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia has rapidly propelled Asia-Pacific to a dominant position.
