The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has approved a project raising the clearance height of bridges across national inland waterways, in the first phase, in the Mekong Delta.

Nine bridges will be built, one renovated and upgraded, and one removed in order to improve traffic infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region.

The project also aims to boost transportation capacity on waterway routes between the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City as well as between the Mekong Delta and seaports in the southern region.

It will cost VND2.155 trillion (nearly $91 million), sourced from the State budget, including VND1.2 trillion ($50.6 million) for construction, VND597 billion ($25 million) for site clearance compensation and resettlement, and the remainder for management and other costs.

The project is slated to begin in 2023 and be completed in 2025.
