Vietnam has received assistance totaling $9.7 million from 30 countries and international organizations to support people affected by typhoons Bualoi and Matmo.
The information was announced at a ceremony held on October 28 to acknowledge international community's support for Vietnamese people after typhoons Bualoi and Matmo.
Expressinig gratitude for the invaluable support from the international community to the Vietnamese people affected by natural disasters, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep said these support packages are practical and serve as a significant source of spiritual encouragement for people in affected areas.
"Within just 20 days, we received assistance from 30 countries and international organizations, including 9 European Union countries, 20 United Nations agencies, and several other partners, totaling $9.7 million. Of this, approximately $7.2 million is cash distributed directly to the people, and goods distributed to the public are valued at $2.5 million," he stated.
Support packages focused on essential needs of the disaster-affected people, such as clean water, water purification equipment, medicines, medical supplies, and personal hygiene items.
Mr. Hiep said 100% of the aid money is expected to be fully disbursed in November, helping approximately 34,000 households to stabilize their lives early.
He expected that countries and international organizations would continue to support localities in developing commune-level disaster prevention and control plans, enhancing the capacity of rapid response forces for disaster prevention, assisting in the recovery of public infrastructure, strengthening early warning systems, and fostering international cooperation in disaster management.
At the ceremony, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, emphasized that by promptly developing a Joint Response Plan (JRP), Vietnam has proactively coordinated closely, focusing on the urgent needs of the people such as clean water, sanitation, health, shelter, livelihoods, and education.
