The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) held a ceremony on February 17 to resume the construction of the city’s Metro Line No. 2 after the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
The line connects Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Tham Luong Depot in District 12.
Major tasks in 2024 include completing the relocation of technical infrastructure to hand over land to the main contractor to begin the construction of underground and aboveground stations in 2025, according to Deputy Head of the MAUR Bui Anh Huan.
Running through Districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu, the line has a total length of 11.3 km, including a 2-km elevated section and a 9.3-km underground section. It has eleven stations, including nine underground, one aboveground, and one depot.
The project is estimated to cost VND47.9 trillion ($1.95 billion), sourced from official development assistance (ODA) funds and reciprocal capital from the southern city.
Construction of the first contract package kicked off on June 22.
The project is to be completed and put into operation by 2030.
