Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang on September 21 received Chairman and CEO of R3 Lithium (United States) Linh Austin who is paying a working visit to Vietnam, according to a report by the Government News.
The Deputy PM affirmed that Vietnam consistently regards the US as one of its strategically important partners, and expressed the desire to work with US businesses to further deepen and make the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership bewteen the two countries more effective and substantive.
Speaking about new policies to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), the Deputy PM emphasized that Vietnam is implementing a new development model, identifying science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers. The country prioritizes deep processing, modern technology application, and environmental protection.
Accordingly, Vietnam aims to strengthen international integration, including integration into global technology supply chains, leveraging external resources to serve development goals, and creating favorable conditions for foreign enterprises to invest and operate effectively in Vietnam — including US companies such as R3 Lithium.
Mr. Austin expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s increasingly open and favorable investment policies. He noted that the electrification of transportation in Vietnam is developing strongly, with the growing use of electric vehicles. He also praised the capabilities of Vietnamese enterprises in cooperating on investment and business in areas where R3 Lithium has strengths.
Recognizing Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, Mr. Austin stated that the company is interested in collaborating with Vietnamese partners in green transition, particularly in battery technology, recycling, and processing of critical minerals. The goal is not only to establish a supply chain but also to build an ecosystem for recycling and reusing batteries and essential minerals in Vietnam.
Welcoming US businesses to invest and operate in Vietnam, the Deputy PM highlighted that the domestic market of over 100 million people, combined with the demand for transportation transformation, creates significant opportunities for projects related to batteries and new materials.
He stressed that Vietnam seeks not only to attract more investment capital but also to establish cooperative relationships that co-create value. This includes investment linked with research and development, technology transfer, training of high-quality human resources, enhancing the capacity of domestic enterprises, and producing globally competitive products.
