During his working visit to the United States, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Head of the Vietnamese Government's negotiation delegation, held high-level meetings on May 20 (local time) with executives from leading US corporations, including Excelerate Energy, Lockheed Martin, SpaceX, and Google.

The discussions underscored a deepening commitment to cooperation across key sectors, including energy, aerospace, high technology, and digital transformation.

Minister Dien urged these major US corporations—given their strong global influence—to convey a message from Vietnam to the administration of President Donald Trump.

He stated: "The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States has been and continues to strongly promote investment opportunities, ensuring favorable conditions for US companies to conduct business in Vietnam. Strengthening cooperation with Vietnam will bring long-term strategic benefits and contribute to a fair, harmonious, and sustainable trade balance between our two nations."

He further emphasized: "Vietnam should be treated as a priority trading partner of the United States."

He called for both countries to work together to resolve outstanding trade and economic issues, including recognizing Vietnam as a market economy and removing Vietnam from the D1 and D3 lists, which currently restrict the export of high-tech products.

"This will bring tangible benefits to both nations in the short and long term," he concluded.

Vietnam is currently the seventh-largest trading partner of the US. In 2024, bilateral trade turnover reached nearly $123 billion, with Vietnam recording a trade surplus of over $98 billion, reflecting the growing economic ties between the two nations.
