In the context of the rapid development of technology, the application of digital initiatives and technological solutions is essential for Vietnam’s tourism sector to develop a smart and sustainable ecosystem of high economic and social value, the Voice of Vietnam reported Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Bui Trung Nghia as telling an August 17 seminar focusing on solutions to encourage digital transformation at tourism companies.

“Digital transformation in the tourism sector requires drastic renewal, not only in technology but also in mindset and action, as well as efforts from businesses, management bodies, and local authorities,” he was quoted as saying.

To accelerate digitization in tourism, seminar participants proposed a number of key solutions, including the development of fundamental digital platforms for the sector; increased cooperation between businesses in the tourism and information technology sectors; upholding the public-private cooperation mechanism to optimize resources for digital transformation; improving the technological knowledge and skills of the tourism workforce; and increasing international cooperation in digital transformation.

“Digital transformation in the tourism sector is not simply the application of information technology; it also must demonstrate a revolution in thinking,” said Director of the Digital Transformation Strategy Institute Le Nguyen Truong Giang.

“The application of technologies will be worthless if the way we think and organize tourism activities and design tourism products remain unchanged,” he said, adding that this entails adopting new, digital ways of thinking and developing new digital capabilities to ensure the effective digital transformation of tourism activities.
