The Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Council has approved a resolution on planning for the Dung Quat Southeast urban area, which will cover over 7,345 ha in the central province’s Binh Son district.
It is to become an economic, trade, service, and financial center within the Dung Quat Economic Zone and considered a key transport hub in the zone’s southeastern reaches.
The urban area is estimated to have a population of 200,000 by 2045.
The People’s Council also gave the green light to planning for the Ly Son urban area as part of the resolution, with the aim of building Ly Son island district into an island tourism center.
Ly Son is the sole island district in Quang Ngai province, covering a natural area of nearly 10 sq km with a population of over 21,000. It is located at the gateway to the Dung Quat Economic Zone and the key economic area of the central region.
