E-commerce tax collections on the rise

More individuals and organizations declared taxes via the e-commerce information portal in 2023.

Tax collections from e-commerce activities conducted by domestic individuals and organizations in 2023 reached VND536.5 billion ($22.3 million), according to the General Department of Taxation (GDT).

Tax agencies also retrieved tax and applied administrative punishments on 179 enterprises and 1,061 individuals for violations, totaling VND275 billion ($11.4 million).

More than a year after launching an e-commerce information portal on December 15, 2022, individuals and organizations engaged in trade activities via 357 e-commerce floors registered with tax agencies, according to the GDT.

A representative from the Department said the number of individuals and organizations declaring taxes in 2023 increased compared to 2022 due to the launch of the portal.

The department also reported that 74 cross-border service providers paid taxes of over VND8 trillion ($333 million) this year via the department’s portal for foreign providers.
