Vietnam’s exports of wood and wood products earned $6.99 billion in the first five months of the year, jumping 11.5% year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
In May alone, the export revenue reached $1.6 billion.
The US remained the biggest importer of Vietnam's wood and wood products in the five-month period, accounting for 54.4% of the total. It was followed by Japan and China, accounting for 12.8% and 10.5%, respectively. Export value of wood and wood products to the US and Japan rose 10.3% and 26.6%, respectively, while that to China dropped 15.4%.
Local enterprises have received more export orders since April this year. Many firms recorded a year-on-year increase of 15-25% in the number of orders for the second quarter this year.
The sector sets a target of gaining $18 billion from exports of wood and wood products this year.
