The government has approved the task of adjusting the general planning for Ho Chi Minh City to 2040 with a vision to 2060.

The scope of the planning boundary is the entire administrative boundary of the city, with an area of 2,095 sq km, and the Can Gio marine area.
The adjustment will create a legal basis and perfect the technical framework for the development and management of the city, thus promoting its leading role in economic relationships both nationally and internationally.

The plan will focus on prioritizing investment in traffic and digital infrastructure projects according to the economic development strategies and models of the city and the region. Main tasks include marine economic development in the city and the region, adapting to climate change, integrating with transit-oriented development (TOD), developing urban infrastructure, and improving the environment.
In the adjustment to general planning, the main requirement is to develop a specific plan for the implementation of the master plan, in line with implementation resources.

The government has assigned the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to arrange capital sources, approve the total cost estimate, and coordinate with the Ministry of Construction and other relevant ministries and agencies to organize the formulation of a scheme to adjust the general planning to 2040 and vision to 2060 in accordance with the law. The project preparation time is 15 months, as prescribed.
