Gia Lai approves investment plan for $31mln solar power project

Authorities in Gia Lai Province, central Vietnam, have approved an investment policy for the Hoai Duc Solar Power Plant, which will be developed through a competitive bidding process to select an investor.

The project will have a designed capacity of 50 megawatts (MW) and is expected to generate approximately 86 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

The plant will be connected to the national power grid at a voltage level of 110kV through a dual-circuit transmission line linking the project’s transformer station to the existing 110kV Hoai Nhon–Phu My transmission line.

The solar farm will be built on a 46-hectare site in Bong Son Ward, with a total estimated investment of more than VND789 billion (approximately $31 million).

Under the proposed timeline, provincial authorities will complete investment approval procedures and organise the investor selection process between March and May 2026. From June to November, the project will undergo technical appraisals, feasibility study assessments, investment approvals, power purchase agreement negotiations, and engineering design, alongside land clearance and legal land-use procedures.

Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2026, with commercial operations expected to commence in March 2028. The project is set to operate for 50 years.

Gia Lai plans to launch investor tenders for 67 energy projects in 2026, primarily large-scale wind and solar developments, as part of its broader renewable energy expansion strategy.
