The Government has approved Khanh Hoa province's request to withdraw World Bank (WB) loans which had been allocated for a sub-project in the south-central province totaling VND4.2 trillion (about $171 million), the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reported.
The VOV quoted a recent document from the Government Office as reporting that the Government agreed to discontinue the use of WB loans for the Integrated Resilient Development Project - Khanh Hoa province sub-project, as proposed by the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The sub-project initially aimed to use WB loans for infrastructure development, including building and upgrading drainage systems, collecting and treating wastewater, constructing a solid waste collection and treatment system in Cam Ranh city, and building Ring Road 3 in Nha Trang city.
The Management Board of Khanh Hoa province's development projects recommended separating the sub-project into three independent projects, to be implemented under the Public Investment Law. These projects, totaling VND4.2 trillion, aim to complete infrastructure, alleviate traffic congestion, improve environmental sanitation, and prevent flooding in Nha Trang city. For Cam Canh city, the wastewater treatment project is crucial for improving local environmental conditions. The implementation period for these projects is from 2024 to 2027.
