The Hanoi Tax Department has launched a virtual assistant to help taxpayers navigate tax regulations and procedures, marking a significant step forward in its digital transformation.

Piloted at the department, the AI-powered assistant provides 24/7 access to information via the tax sector’s electronic portal, the Etaxmobile app, and the Ihanoi citizens app.

Developed using a comprehensive database of tax laws, policies, and procedures, including over 10,000 bilingual questions and answers, the assistant offers detailed, easy-to-understand explanations, integrated forms, and visual guides.

For example, when asked about tax obligations for individuals operating across multiple e-commerce platforms, the assistant accurately cited Article 4 of Circular No. 40/2021/TT-BTC regarding VAT and PIT thresholds.

The Hanoi Tax Department is currently managing over 236,000 enterprises, 235,000 business households, and over 10 million personal tax identification numbers.

In addition to developing the virtual assistant, tax authorities are also focusing on building a large database (big data) based on the national population database, in order to continue enhancing the effectiveness of tax management.

Authorities also combine the databases of various sectors, including the police, investment planning, social insurance, statistics, the State Bank of Vietnam, natural resources and environment, transportation, etc., and especially the tax sector’s data warehouse of over 80 million taxpayers, including businesses, organizations, individual households, and individual entrepreneurs nationwide.

Based on big data, the Hanoi Tax Department has digitized and connected information to build and develop an e-commerce database system that can accurately identify taxpayers engaged in business activities in cyberspace.
