According to Anouncement No. 241/TB-UBND issued recently,  the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City allowed 54 real estate enterprises to acquire agricultural land for development of commercial housing, under a pilot mechanism.

The 54 land plots to be acquired by these real estate enterprises  have a combined area of nearly 6.6 million square meters, including over 212,800 square meters of rice land.

Among the 54 land plots, 48 are located in the former province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau (now part of Ho Chi Minh City).

According to the People's Committee, from the effective date of the announcement (November 7), all relevant agencies, organizations, and individuals are required to facilitate the implementation of projects in compliance with legal regulations.

Previously, on September 29, during its 4th session, the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City also approved a list of  the 54 land plots to be allocated for developing commercial housing projects in 2025 (phase 1) as regulated by Resolution No. 171/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly.

Resolution No. 171/2024/QH15 provides a pilot scheme to allow the development of commercial housing projects through the use of available nonresidential land and/or the acquisition of nonresidential land.  Under the pilot scheme,   land users (including those who will acquire the land use rights) in relation to agricultural land, nonagricultural land and/or mixed-use land, are allowed to have the flexibility of using such land for the development of commercial housing projects.
