Ho Chi Minh City and China's Quangdong Province have successfully promoted 22 cooperation projects with a total value of $1.5 billion, contributing to strengthening the comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and China more effectively and practically.
This took place at the Investment and Trade Cooperation Conference between Vietnam and China (Guangdong) organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in collaboration with the Chinese Consulate General in the city and the Guangdong Provincial Trade Promotion Council on October 30.
According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the city People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a smart city, developing rapidly and sustainably, and transforming into an international mega-city. Guangdong is a dynamic economic region of China, strong in import-export, innovation, and participation in the global supply chain.
"The two sides have complementary advantages: Vietnam has a strategic location, abundant labor, and an investment-attractive environment; Guangdong has technology, capital, and market networks," he said.
"This is the foundation for long-term strategic cooperation. In particular, developing a green supply chain, electrical-electronic industry, electric vehicles, etc., aligns with the city's orientation towards green infrastructure, high technology, electrical-electronic industry, and green transport equipment production; while Guangdong has technology corporations, electronic components, and electric vehicles, creating significant opportunities for both sides to participate in the global supply chain."
Mr. Cuong also called for increased export of agricultural and aquatic products and consumer goods from Vietnam to Guangdong.
Conversely, Vietnam imports from China machinery, industrial equipment, raw materials, consumer goods, and electronic components - key factors for the country's industrialization and modernization process.
It is noted that Guangdong currently leads China in e-commerce, logistics, and supply chains, while Ho Chi Minh City, as an international gateway, financial-payment center, and logistics hub of Vietnam, has significant potential to cooperate with Chinese enterprises to develop e-commerce platforms and become a distribution center for the ASEAN region.
Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Zhang Guozhi, said that this period is a good opportunity for the two localities to promote cooperation, elevating the relationship to a new, more comprehensive level.
