HCMC ceases operations of manual slaughterhouses

All manual livestock slaughterhouses in Ho Chi Minh City must cease operations from April 1 and the task moved to industrial slaughterhouses, according to local authorities.

Many modern industrial slaughterhouses have been built in the city with high food safety and hygiene standards, with the aim of supplying safe products to consumers.

The move is aimed at meeting urbanization and industrialization trends and increasing export value for agricultural products.

The city has huge demand for the consumption of livestock products, with an average number of 10,000-11,000 pigs being consumed each day.

The city set a target of having all industrial slaughterhouses operating at 80-100 per cent of capacity from 2023. Measures will also be taken to support businesses and workers after manual slaughterhouses cease operations.
