The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Human Resources Forecasting and Labor Market Information predicts that the city will need 310,000 to 330,000 workers in 2025.
The highest demand for labor is expected in the trade and service sector, accounting for 67.7% of the total demand, followed by the industrial and construction sector at 31.8%. The agricultural, forestry, and fishery sector has the lowest demand at 0.5%.
Specifically, four key industrial sectors—mechanical engineering, electronics and information technology, pharmaceuticals, rubber and plastics, and food processing—will account for 18.6% of the demand. Labor needs are particularly focused on mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and electronics manufacturing.
In terms of technical expertise, the demand for trained labor is projected to be 88.11%. This includes workers with elementary vocational skills (34.61%), intermediate vocational skills (20.14%), university graduates and above (18.76%), and college graduates (14.6%). The demand for unskilled labor is estimated at 11.89%.
In the current digital age, the need for technologically skilled labor is rapidly increasing. According to a survey by the International Labor Organization (ILO), approximately 85 million new jobs will be created globally by 2025 due to the development of digital technology and automation.
