The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed two options to build a tunnel beneath Ton Duc Thang Street on the banks of the Saigon River.

Under the first option, a 765-meter tunnel will be built, between the foot of the access road to Ba Son Bridge near Ngo Van Nam Street and Khanh Hoi Bridge. Total investment is estimated at VND1.477 trillion ($61.5 million).

The second option is to build a 683-meter tunnel between the foot of the access road to Ba Son Bridge near Ngo Van Nam Street and Nguyen Hue Boulevard. Total investment capital is estimated at VND1.359 trillion ($56.6 million).

Ton Duc Thang in District 1, one of the oldest avenues in the city, has a total length of 2 km. It connects Le Duan Boulevard and Khanh Hoi Bridge. The vital route also links the city center with District 4 and the Saigon South New Urban Town.

The project is part of the city’s transport development investment plan in the 2024-2030 period.
