Ho Chi Minh City has set a target of cutting gas emissions by 10 per cent by 2030 as part of its efforts to build a favorable living and working environment for people and businesses, Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee Phan Van Mai has said.
Addressing an investment conference on Ho Chi Minh City’s green growth, held on January 24, Mr. Mai emphasized that the southern city has opted for green growth as its future development strategy, considering it a top priority to achieve economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and social equality.
The conference offered an opportunity for businesses and investors to explore potential in cooperation to contribute to the city’s socio-economic development, he said.
Municipal authorities reviewed solutions proposed by analysts to help the city stay abreast of development in the region and the world and become a green city based on a green economy.
Addressing the conference, held jointly by the municipal People’s Committee and the World Bank (WB), Ms. Carolyn Turk, WB Country Director for Vietnam, suggested that Ho Chi Minh City offer incentives to encourage the private sector to engage in the green transition.
She pledged that the WB will support the city in the implementation of its emissions reduction strategy and with access to financial sources.
