Ho Chi Minh City has set a target of having 100 per cent of its buses running on clean fuels or electricity within the 2025-2030 period, according to the city’s Department of Transport.
The plan will need capital estimated at over VND13.8 trillion ($575 million).
There are 2,089 buses on the city’s streets, plying 128 routes. Of these, 489 buses use clean energy.
Apart from having existing buses transition to the use of clean fuels, funds will also be used to purchase new electric buses.
The city will also invest in installing more electric and compressed natural gas (CNG) stations for CNG-powered buses and charging stations for electric vehicles.
