Retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in Ho Chi Minh City reached nearly VND1.49 quadrillion ($56.6 billion) in the first nine months of 2026, up 13.8% year on year, providing a solid foundation for the year-end shopping season.

Revenue in the third quarter alone totalled VND523.84 trillion, an increase of 15.5%. Retail sales of goods reached approximately VND699.43 trillion over the nine-month period, up 17.2%, while September retail sales rose 17.6% year on year.

In September, revenue from household goods, equipment and appliances increased 21.2% year on year, while sales of wood and construction materials surged 41.6%. Food and foodstuffs remained the largest retail category by revenue share, although sales declined 0.9% from a year earlier.

Retailers are extending the shopping season rather than relying solely on a few peak sales periods at the end of the year. Under Ho Chi Minh City’s 2026 concentrated promotion program, the second promotional period will run from November 11, 2026, to February 2, 2027.

The city’s large consumer market and improving purchasing power offer retailers significant opportunities to accelerate sales in the final months of the year.
