Vietnam’s industrial production index (IIP) in January posted a strong growth of 21.5% compared to the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Office.
Manufacturing and processing output rose 23.6% from a year earlier, accounting for the bulk of overall growth. Electricity generation and distribution increased 14.1%, while water supply and waste treatment activities climbed 13.6%. Mining output was up 10.3%.
Several key industrial segments recorded sharp gains, reflecting stronger domestic and overseas demand. Output of non-metallic mineral products jumped 41.9% from a year earlier, followed by motor vehicle production, up 36.6%, and basic metals, up 35.4%. Chemical products rose 35.2%, paper and paper products gained 31.9%, and beverage production increased 26.1%.
Electronics-related manufacturing also showed solid momentum, with output of electronic products, computers and optical products rising 20.9%, while electrical equipment climbed 21.1%. Garment production rose 25.3%, and food processing increased 17.7%.
Industrial production rose in all 34 provinces and cities, with many localities posting strong gains driven by manufacturing and power generation.
