Under a master plan for the development of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1519/QD-TTg, dated December 2, it will have seven new industrial parks (IPs) by 2030, raising the total to 14.
The seven new IPs will cover a total area of 6,485 ha, an increase of 6.5-fold compared to the existing IP space of 987 ha.
The 14 IPs will be concentrated in Cai Rang, Binh Thuy, O Mon, Thot Not, Thoi Lai, Co Do, and Vinh Thanh districts, of which the largest area will be in Vinh Thanh, with five IPs on more than 5,165 ha.
In addition to its industrial sector, the city will also develop hi-tech agriculture and research and training facilities. Hi-tech agriculture is to cover a total area of 1,700 ha.
Meanwhile, tourism areas on 720 ha, sports areas on 300 ha, and historic, cultural, and scenic reserves on 210 ha will also receive investment.
Under the master plan, Can Tho will develop transport infrastructure, especially airports, seaports, highways, and inland waterways, with industry and services being driving forces.
It will also become a development hub in the Mekong Delta, with commercial, logistics, tourist, healthcare, education, science and technology, banking and finance, and information and communications centers to be built.
