Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has announced that a project for upgrading and expanding the National Highway 13 will start on April 30 next year, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Southern Liberation (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), six month ahead of schedule.
As a crucial traffic artery, the upgrade and expansion of the Highway will significantly enhance connectivity between the southern city and the industrial parks in neighboring Binh Duong province, the department stated.
The transport department is currently compiling a pre-feasibility study report, following the previously announced plan to select a contractor as per Decision No 572/QĐ-SGTVT dated April 25, 2024.
The pre-feasibility study report is expected to be submitted to the city’s People’s Committee for appraisal and investment approval in Q4 2024.
Also, the transport department has announced plans to build two elevated roads Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Dinh Bo Linh (this road runs parallel to Xo Viet Nghe Tinh) connecting to National Highway 13). The total investment for these two elevated roads is estimated at VND10 trillion (nearly $406 million).
National Highway 13, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Dinh Bo Linh roads in Binh Thanh District connecting HCM City with Binh Duong province are important gateways to the northeast. It is expected that upon completion, these routes will facilitate traffic between the two localities, address traffic congestion at the northeastern gateway of HCM City, and improve connectivity between HCM City and the Southeast and Central Highlands regions via National Highway 13 and National Highway 14.
This is also one of the 88 key infrastructure projects that HCM City will implement from now until 2030.
