More than 89,600 new enterprises were established in the first seven months of the year, with total registered capital of nearly VND588.9 trillion ($24.7 billion), figures from the General Statistics Office (GSO) show.

The figures represent an increase of 0.2 per cent in number but a fall of 17.1 per cent in capital compared to the same period last year.

In July alone, the number of newly-established enterprises totaled 13,700, with registered capital of nearly VND126.9 trillion ($5.3 billion), up 4.3 per cent and 2.4 per cent, respectively, year-on-year.

Also during the period, 42,300 enterprises resumed operations, down 4.6 per cent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, 66,800 enterprises registered for a temporary suspension of operations, up 19.3 per cent year-on-year.

Some 36,000 enterprises ceased operations while waiting to complete dissolution procedures, up 27.4 per cent year-on-year, while 10,400 businesses were dissolved, an increase of 0.6 per cent year-on-year.
