Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thanh Hai has confirmed that there will basically be no power shortages for production and daily life from now to the end of the year.
Speaking at a recent regular government press briefing, Deputy Minister Hai said water levels at hydropower reservoirs have been rising since the end of June and technical problems at a number of thermopower turbines have been resolved, ensuring sufficient power supply in the country’s north.
Figures from Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) show that total domestically-generated and imported electricity in June reached 25.32 billion kWh, a year-on-year rise of 3.4 per cent and bringing the total figure in the first half to 136.09 billion kWh.
Following directions from the government and the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has asked EVN to continually update the operations of the power network and power market, ensuring power supply this year while actively building plans to respond to difficult situations in the network.
At the same time, EVN has been asked to coordinate with customers, especially those with significant consumption, to design electricity load adjustment plans to ensure power supply security.
The Deputy Minister underlined four major solutions to ensure smooth operations of the network: providing fuel to thermal power plants; minimizing and promptly fixing problems in the network; properly operating hydropower sources; and strengthening electricity savings and speeding up new power projects.
